Celebrating VE Day
There was a real buzz at Portway House on Thursday 8th May as residents, staff and visitors came together to mark VE Day with an afternoon of music, memories and plenty of cheer.
The garden was full of life, with Union Jack bunting and eye-catching decorations bringing a bright, cheerful feel to the home. Everyone made their way outside to enjoy the sunshine, ready for an afternoon of celebration and reflection.
We were delighted to welcome a talented live singer, who performed a fantastic mix of wartime favourites and sing-along classics. The music sparked laughter, conversation, and heartfelt memories as it brought back special moments for many. Residents danced, sang along, and fully embraced the uplifting atmosphere.
Our kitchen team served a traditional buffet, with sandwiches, sausage rolls, cakes, and cups of tea, all the ingredients for a feel-good afternoon. There was a real sense of pride and connection, as people shared stories and remembered the meaning behind the day.
“It's so important to mark these moments,”said Faye Gailey, Home Manager. “Today gave them a chance to remember those times and to celebrate how far we've come.”
It was a joyful and meaningful day, a big thank you to our wonderful staff and everyone who took part in making the day so special.
